Russian cbank initiates work to create national virtual currency
ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 2 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank has started working on the creation of a national virtual currency, Deputy Chairwoman Olga Skorobogatova said on Friday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“We’ll certainly have a national virtual currency. We’re working on it,” Skorobogatova said. “The thing is that all regulators have come to a thought that a national virtual currency should be surely created. It’s the future. It’s a matter of time.”
China, Singapore, and the U.K. earlier announced their plans to issue national digital currencies.
The Russian regulator will submit a draft ruling in a month to impose taxes on cryptocurrencies as digital goods.
“In the autumn session, we with other ministries and entities can offer how to define a private digital currency and how to regulate it on the government level,” Skorobogatova said.
